TAURUS 856

While looking for an interesting gun to model, I came across the Taurus 856, the first optics ready small frame revolver. I chose to model this gun because the optic creates a unique side profile that distinguishes it from other revolvers. Also the juxtaposition between a modern weapon sight and a classic revolver design adds a bit of style to the weapon.

Modeling a real weapon starts with gathering reference images and measurements. Then a blockout of the revolver is created using exact measurements. This is further refined through both boolean and subd workflows. Once the topology is clean and the UVs are unwrapped, the model is ready to be textured. Used weapons have more personality so it’s better to avoid clean reference pictures like those seen on the manufacturer’s website for texturing. Final renders are tweaked in photoshop for better presentation.
